Endowed Funds

Avery Fierman Endowed Scholarship Fund

Avery Fierman deeply loved the AIS school community and we are dedicated to remembering him and the kindness he shared with all of us here at AIS and beyond. Avery passed away at the age of 16.

Thanks to the outpouring of support from Avery’s family, friends, peers, teachers, and community, we have created an endowed fund which will allow AIS to honor Avery’s memory in perpetuity. The Avery Fierman Endowed Scholarship will fund need-based financial aid for a secondary school student who embodies a focus on academic excellence and the joy of learning paired with an undeniable spirit of kindness and empathy.

Avery was clever and enchanting, always engaging others in his imaginative worlds. He was a creative and talented writer who taught himself how to play guitar and to write songs. He was an aspiring filmmaker who created elaborate movies from the first time he had access to a camera. He excelled in the AIS IB program and was a true friend who stood up for his friends in times of need. See the gallery below for a glimpse into Avery's world.

Thank you to all who have donated to help to celebrate Avery’s life through philanthropy.

Dedication Ceremony at AIS

Avery’s Place is the kind of safe harbor that Avery was for all those whose lives he touched. This part of our campus is where Avery and his friends spent every break and
lunch. Avery’s friends and family honored his memory by creating this beautiful new area for anyone needing a quiet moment, a kind face, a warm hug, or a listening ear.

What is Inequity?

Inequity is the ongoing struggle

For something that shouldn’t have to be a struggle at all

Inequity is being picked last
Being ignored, or unempowered by factors out of one’s control

Inequity is the 774 million illiterate adults in the world, two-thirds of which are women

Inequity is the fact that black people are significantly less likely to be homeowners than white people

And furthermore that because of this they have less access to the savings, tax benefits, and other advantages that come along with owning a home

Inequity is the less than 39 percent of countries that have an equal proportion of the sexes enrolled in secondary school

Inequity is the unfairness in the system that afflicts us

But inequity is something we can change

By recognizing these inequalities and flaws within our lives and the lives of others, we can grow and change for the better
