Kayden Skeete, Grade 11, has been named one of the 21 outstanding youth leaders for the 2021 Georgia Youth Leadership Awards
by 21st Century Leaders (21 CL). The youth leadership and talent development program is for high school students from diverse backgrounds and this year will be honoring non-profit founders, entrepreneurs, philanthropists, writers, filmmakers, and community advocates at a virtual event on Thursday, March 25th. Kayden has been selected for her dedication to leveraging diversity both within our school community and outside. During her time at AIS Kayden has worked as a student ambassador, helped with interviews for prospective families and staff to help diversify our community, co-led a Black affinity group, Sankofa, for middle school students and founded a monthly newsletter highlighting Black excellence within our school community. Kayden attended the Student Diversity Leadership Conference and is currently a dedicated member of the Black Affinity group for upper school students. Outside of school Kayden is a dedicated member of her Jack and Jill of America chapter, a VOX teen staff writer and founded her own social justice platform entitled The Social Justice Project. Kayden told us: "I feel incredibly honored to have been nominated for this incredible award. It is a reminder to me that even though my leadership work tends to be on a smaller scale (within my community), my work still makes an impact."
