Media & Film
In meeting the demands of the digital age and the interest of our students AIS added Media and Film into the arts curriculum. And with a newly opened dedicated Film and Media space, opened in 2022, there is a greater opportunity than ever before for creativity in this area.
Practical, hands-on instruction allows students to experience the many aspects of media production such as studying the different forms of media and specific skills in creating it. The classes focus on guiding students to better understand the power of media as a tool of expression and investigation enhancing their intercultural competencies.
Primary School WAIS-TV
In the Primary School, all students in Grades 4 and 5 have the opportunity to join the W-AIS TV crew. Broadcasting to the Primary School every month, the students participate in an authentic student-led TV production program which takes place before regular school hours. By taking on roles both in front of and behind the cameras, the program encourages students to think independently and problem solve. It is also a great way to make friends across the grades.
Secondary School Media
Students will engage in learning experiences focusing on imagery in film and media, with an emphasis on those that cross cultural boundaries. Planning, script writing, creating, animation, directing, camera work, lighting, and exploring other aspects of the craft.
Students will explore Media in MYP Grades 6 - 8 and may choose to study it for a year long course in Grades 9 or 10. DP Film is a two year course offering for Grades 11 - 12.
