Music Program

Atlanta International School’s Department of Music, which has four full-time and three part-time faculty members, serves the needs of over 1000 students in grades 3K-12.

Through academic music classes, co-curricular music performance ensembles, and an extensive after school private music lessons program, students create, participate in, and reflect upon music from their own background and those of others. In doing so, they learn about different cultures and better empathize with them.

Academic courses in music include Primary School instruction, with some classes in Lower Primary taught in the target language; Middle School general music; and Upper School advanced music as well as the IB Diploma Program in music at both higher and standard levels.

Co-curricular music performance ensembles are a major component of life at AIS and teach students how to successfully work and collaborate with others. In both the Primary School and Middle School, we offer chorus, strings, and band; and in the Upper School, we offer ensembles including three different choral groups, a concert band, and a string orchestra.

  • Primary School Performance Ensembles

We provide students with many wonderful opportunities to participate in band, chorus or orchestra, all three of which are led by a very talented and capable group of music educators helping to develop and shape our Primary School student musicians.

In order to support both the band and orchestra, we are excited to offer an annual Instrument Petting Zoo in the fall, which allows families to explore instruments in an interactive way in an effort to help your child make an informed decision. Please attend the Fall 2018 Instrument Petting Zoo on Saturday, September 8th from 9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. in the ELC Multipurpose Room.
  • Secondary School Performance Ensembles

Co-curricular Secondary School Performance Ensembles include band, chorus and orchestra.  For students who are interested in participating in both an ensemble and an athletic team, you can. The Music and Athletic departments work together to accommodate student participation. Students and families will receive the policy in the information packet provided at our first meeting.
