Growing up in Cali, Columbia, the only form of running Enrique Sanchez ever did occurred over the course of a soccer game. When he moved to Atlanta with his family four years ago, he was intrigued to see people running in the streets.
"I saw so many people running in the streets in the United States and I tried it out and I saw that I had the discipline and the endurance somehow," Sanchez said.
Now with the Atlanta International School cross country team, the junior's fastest time to date is 17.13 which came during the AIS Fun Run. His next closest time is 17.42, which came during a meet at Our Lady of Mercy.
Last season in his first season running cross country, he finished No. 9 in the Class A state meet.
This season, AIS cross country coach Lily Medina thins he will greatly improve on the No. 9 finish.
