Parent Organization

The purpose of the Parent Organization (PO) is to promote the school through the organized efforts and activities of the parent body.

There are a large variety of opportunities for all parents to become involved in the activities of the PO. Please feel free to contact the committee chairs, the Volunteer Coordinator or the PO officers. The current list of all PO officers and Room Parents is available in the AIS Directory. The PO welcomes and encourages all our parents to participate as the strength of our school community is built from the participation of all its members.

The Parent Organization is comprised of working committees as well as being the umbrella organization to a number of parent associations.

For details of the roles and function of the PO Council, the Room Parents and School Representatives, please sign in and refer to the PO Bylaws on the PO webpage.

PO Council

The PO Council is composed of: the Executive Board (President, President-Elect, Secretary, Treasurer), Past President, School Representatives, Committee and Event Chairs, and the Cultural Club Representatives. These positions serve as the voting members of the PO Council. No person may hold more than one position on the PO Council at any one time. The PO Council is elected by annual ballot of the entire parent body / Parent Organization.

School Representatives, Room Parents and Grade Reps

The School Representatives play a key role in facilitating communication between the Heads of Schools, the PO Council and the Room Parents/Grade Representatives.

The Room Parent (Primary School ) and the Grade Representative (Secondary School) are key in the communication process, as they are the direct link between School Representatives, parents and faculty. Room Parents work directly with classroom teachers while Grade Representatives work with Heads of Grades in Secondary School.

PO Culture Clubs/Committees and Signature Events

PO Culture Clubs and Committees

The Ambassador Committee helps welcome our newest families and supports the Admissions Office by providing a warm environment in which to welcome new and prospective parents considering AIS for their children. They also provide leadership, structure and organization to new families in need.

Amigos’ core mission is to promote the Spanish language and to celebrate cultural diversity by offering educational and social activities to our AIS families. They work closely with the Spanish department at AIS by providing support and assistance in organizing various activities such as el Día del Idioma which is aimed to enhance the Spanish language and culture at AIS.

Arts Alliance Committee

It is the mission of the AIS Arts Alliance to support all areas of the Arts throughout AIS, including music, theater and visual arts. The Arts Alliance Committee showcases and promotes the Arts within the AIS community and attempts to promote the AIS Arts program externally as well.

Asian Culture Club

The purpose of the Asian Culture Club is to assist AIS in fulfilling its mission by celebrating the diverse Asian culture within the community. At the same time, the ACC promotes and supports the Mandarin program at AIS through cultural events such as the Asian New Year Celebration.

Deutsch Connection

The Deutsch Connection supports the German language program at AIS by promoting German culture, language and educational standards at AIS. The Deutsch Connection holds their annual Christmas Market in December.

Ensemble / Francophile Culture Club

Ensemble is a multicultural parent association representing all French cultures of AIS.  Parents who are a part of Ensemble are native and non-native speakers from all school levels.  Ensemble works to support, further, and promote all areas of AIS's French department with regards to academic curriculum, promotion of the French program, parent & family education, and social & cultural activities like their Wine & Cheese and La Kermesse events.

Harambee Culture Club

The purpose of Harambee is to assist AIS in fulfilling its mission by increasing awareness and sensitivity among the AIS community to the unique perspectives, experiences and issues of those who view themselves as members of the black and/or African-American, African or Caribbean population. Harambee extends this conceptualization to include those who do not identify as such, yet offer their support. They are committed to the fundamental AIS values of respect, diversity, effort and joy of learning. They hold an annual event - Jazz in Black and White as well as several cultural activities throughout the year.

Parent Programs

The PO works in partnership with the AIS parent base, school reps, and the school counselors, to identify and organize information that assists parents with supporting their children. The topics for Parent Programs over the course of the year cater to all grade levels and include issues of current debate or concern. Dates are listed on the electronic school calendar and participation is open to all parents and guardians.

Nourish is a Parent Organization group that promotes healthy eating at AIS. The committee, established in 2010 with a broader mission to promote health and sustainability, is refocusing in 2011-2012 on community-building initiatives centered on promoting healthy eating. We hope to foster the development of strong community bonds across grades and language tracks as we improve our community knowledge around this topic through expert knowledge sharing, discussions, and skill-building educational events about healthy eating; including nutrient-dense tastings and cooking classes.

Sports Boosters

The Sports Boosters, also known as Eagle Watchers, is organized as part of the Parent Organization for the purpose of building a network of parent and student involvement to support the sports program and recognition of athletes. The club welcomes parents of students participating in all of the school sports programs. Officers are selected annually.
