Middle School

The Middle School serves the developmental needs of students in grades 6 through 8. All students take English, one other modern language, mathematics, social studies and science. Drama, art, music, computer and physical education are also an integral part of the curriculum in the Middle School. Social studies classes are conducted in English, French, Spanish and German. Language and literature studies are conducted in the students' chosen second languages throughout the Middle and Upper Schools. Students who are bilingual, either by background or by having attended the AIS Primary School, study their second languages at advanced level.

Students who speak only English are welcome to apply to the AIS Middle School. We offer intensive language courses from beginner through native speaker levels, and can accommodate the needs of monolingual students.

In addition to modern languages, all students are required to take Latin or Chinese in grades 6 and 7. Throughout the Middle School, students follow the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP), which is designed to prepare them for the IB Diploma Programme (DP), which they follow in grades 11 and 12.
