Kevin Glass Photo

Kevin Glass

Kevin Glass is Headmaster of Atlanta International School. He has a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Framingham State College, Massachusetts, USA; a Post Graduate Certificate of Education in Biology and Chemistry from Cambridge University, UK; and a Bachelor of Science (Hons.) Degree in Bacteriology and Virology from Manchester University, UK. Mr. Glass' career in education spans 19 years and includes educational leadership and teaching positions in South and West Africa, Central and North America, and Central Asia.  Prior to joining Atlanta International School, Mr. Glass served as Director of Tashkent International School in Uzbekistan for five years. Previous experience in international education includes leadership and teaching roles in San José, Costa Rica, Lomé, Togo (West Africa) and South Africa. He is a Board member of the Academy for International School Heads, the Central and Eastern European Schools Association, and The International Educator.      

Rachel Hovington

Rachel Hovington is the Head of Curriculum and Professional Development and joined the school in 2002. Her previous leadership roles spanning a seventeen year career have included, Head of Year, Head of Science and IB Diploma Coordinator. She holds a Bachelors of Science Degree (Hons.) in Applied and Environmental Geology from the University of Birmingham, Edgebaston UK, a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from The University of Nottingham, UK and a Masters in Educational Leadership in International Education from the University of Bath, UK. Rachel serves on the Board of the Center for The Advancement and Study of International Education (CASIE) and has led workshops on International Mindedness with K-12 Faculty and Staff in schools and locations all over North America. Rachel has consulted for schools aspiring to be IB schools as well as those who wish to enhance their International programs. She has accredited schools for the Council of International Schools, most recently returning from Colombia, as well as for AdvancED and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI).

Dusty Fretwell

Dusty Fretwell is the Head of the Lower Primary School. She holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) Degree from the University of Leeds, and a Post-Graduate Certificate specializing in Early Childhood Education from the University of Southampton, UK. She also qualified as an Office for Standards in Education (OFSTED) Inspector in the UK, where she carried out nursery/kindergarten inspections. Her teaching and educational management career includes working in international schools in Spain, Malaysia, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the Caribbean, as well as national schools in the UK and USA, and Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) programs in Mexico and France. Apart from her current position at Atlanta International School (AIS), her prior senior leadership experience includes the roles of School Management Advisor, Curriculum Specialist and Head of Primary. Dusty speaks French and Spanish and has a strong interest in second/foreign language acquisition. One of her educational accomplishments includes the establishment of a kindergarten which offered a second language program.

Alain Poiraud

Alain Poiraud is the Head of the Upper Primary School. Alain's professional background includes teaching positions and educational management positions. Between 1986 and 1993, he taught grades 5K to 5 in France and grades 3 to 8 in Lafayette, LA. He also taught French in a pilot immersion program in Cecilia, LA. Alain joined Atlanta International School (AIS) in 1993 as a French teacher, taking on the role of French Coordinator for the Primary School in 1997. From 2004 to 2008, he held the position of Assistant Head and French Coordinator at AIS. Alain has a B.A. in Elementary Education and Teaching Certification from the École Normale de la Roche-sur-Yon, France. He also has a National Coaching Degree (BE 1er degree) from the University of Nantes, France. From the University of Caen, France, he obtained a BA, with honors, in French as a Foreign Language and is currently pursuing a master's degree in International Education Administration.

Darryl Brown

Darryl Brown is the Deputy Head of Secondary School / Head of Middle School. He has a Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) in Economics from the University of Essex, UK, a Post-Graduate Certificate (teaching certification) from the University of Leicester, UK, and a Certificate of International Leadership from The Principals' Training Center. He is currently completing a master's degree in Educational Leadership and Management, with a concentration on International Education, from the University of Bath, UK. An IB North America workshop leader (Mathematics), accreditation officer and academy member, Darryl has 18 years experience in international education. Darryl spent 5 years in Kenya teaching mathematics and physical education. He also served as Head of Mathematics and Curriculum Coordinator. Prior to joining AIS, Darryl spent 6 years as the Head of Mathematics at the British School in Caracas, Venezuela. He joined AIS in 2002 and has served as Assistant Head of the Middle School since 2005. Darryl speaks English and Spanish.

Patrick Hurworth

Patrick Hurworth is the Head of Secondary School. For four years, Patrick taught geography in the UK before moving to Switzerland where he taught geography at the International School of Geneva for six years. In Geneva, he also served as the Head of the Humanities Department, managing the development of its bilingual curriculum. He joined Atlanta International School in 2002 as Assistant Head of Upper School. Patrick  served as Assistant Head of the Upper School until June 2008, when he was named Head of Upper School. Patrick was appointed to his current position, Head of Secondary School, effective July 2009. An IB North America workshop leader and academy member, Patrick has a BA in geography from the University of Hull, UK, a teaching certification from the University of Nottingham, UK, and a certificate of Leadership and Management from Webster University, Switzerland. He has a Master of Arts degree in Educational Leadership and Management, with a concentration on International Education, from the University of Bath, UK. Patrick speaks English and French.

Stewart Lathan Photo

Stewart Lathan

Stewart Lathan is the Director of Development at AIS. With more than 16 years of development experience, almost exclusively in independent schools both in Atlanta and abroad, Stewart brings a wealth of expertise in strategic fundraising and is uniquely equipped to lead development programs. As Director of Development at Westminster School in London, UK, she built development programs from the ground up, implemented an overall fundraising strategy and initiated plans for a major capital campaign. In her previous position at Godolphin and Latymer, an International Baccalaureate school in London, UK, she played a leading role in one of the most successful independent school campaigns in the country by raising $4 million in 18 months. In Atlanta, she held the positions of Director of Development at Paideia School and Associate Director of Development at Lovett. At both schools, she led successful capital campaigns, which included launching a $20 million campaign at Paideia and a $55 million campaign at Lovett, as well as annual fund and legacy programs. A native of Atlanta, Stewart graduated from The Westminster Schools, and has an Art History degree from Davidson College.

Reid Mizell Photo

Reid Mizell

Reid is the Director of Admissions at AIS and one of the founding members of the school. She has an extensive background as a marketing strategist with expertise in brand development, marketing planning, strategic alliances, sponsorship, and integrated marketing execution. She began her consulting career developing Export Marketing Programs for French and American firms. Her organizational leadership includes having been VP of Marketing for a US technology firm and CEO of three U.S. and Australian marketing agencies.

Reid has developed strategy for product launches; global sports sponsorships; and Cause, Arts and Entertainment programs in the U.S., Asia, Europe, and South America. She has 17 years of consulting experience with companies and NGOs such as Coca-Cola, China Mobile, CARE, Delta Airlines, Ford, Home Depot, Hyundai, Kellogg's, Kodak, MasterCard, IBM, Telstra, and Samsung.

Reid holds a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Emory University and a MBA in International Marketing from Georgia State University. She also did a year of graduate work at the Ecole Supérieure de Commerce de Paris.

Scott MacDonald Photo

Scott McDonald

Scott McDonald is the Director of Finance at AIS where he leads the business office and auxiliary programs and services. He has an extensive background in finance and administration, which includes leadership roles at Pace Academy and Wachovia Bank of Georgia. In addition to finance, his former positions include general management, client services and senior sales positions in several private businesses such as Clarke American Checks, Inc. and Satcher, Chick & Kapfer, Inc.

Scott holds a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Master of Business Administration Degree from Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri, as well as a certificate in Executive Development from Emory University. He has served as president of the Atlanta Chapter of the American Institute of Banking and president of the Kiwanis Club of Northside Atlanta, and is an active member of several organizations such as the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, Mid-South Independent School Business Officers (MISBO) and Leadership Dekalb. Scott and his wife have three children and five grandchildren.
