Día de los Muertos
Día de los muertos displays
In order to celebrate the Day of the Dead at AIS, every Secondary Spanish class builds an altar honoring a departed person from the arts, sciences, politics or sports of a Spanish-speaking country. Students research the life of the famous person to be honored, bringing in samples of the person's favored food and drink, flowers, photographs or other paraphernalia typical of her/his character, along with votive candles. They decorate the altar in the cultural style typical of the dead hero's country or region. This exhibition is becoming a tradition in which all Spanish teachers and students from both native and non-native tracks participate. This year, different classes in the same block made a presentation on their person to one another regardless of their level of the Spanish Language.
