Bethania CAS Group Works Toward Goals

In reaching our second quarter in IB, Ms. Shanta Kalyanasundaram's advisory is still working hard on the Bethania Project. Multiple efforts from the entire AIS community have gone into reaching our goal and, as a result, our accomplishments have started to show. First, many thanks are owed to the German department, led by Mrs. Christiane Box. They took it upon themselves to run a bake sale for Bethania, and as a result have raised more than $800. In addition, Ms. Sigi Dassler, an AIS parent, graciously donated $200 toward Christmas gifts for the children of Bethania. Ms. Shanta will be spending Christmas at Bethania this year, taking on the role of Bethania's Santa Claus performed last year by alumnus James Brindley.
More help was given by students at our stands during WorldFest and the basketball festival. Their aid in running our booths resulted in more money raised for Bethania: an impressive amount of more than $400 for each event. Without the help of these many individuals, we could never have accomplished so much in this first quarter. Our wholehearted thanks go out to everyone involved, especially Coach Joe Grayman and Coach Neil Spencer.
We have currently raised funds for the following Bethania projects:
- Installation of solar panels
- Purchase of dining room tables and chairs
- Purchase of study tables and chairs
- Christmas field trip
Further fundraising goals for this school year
- Mr. Tony Greenall's advisory continues to raise money to support a 12th grader, Kubendran, through college. He would like to study Economics. (target: $1,600)
- We still need to raise college funds for Bharathi, who wants to study microbiology (target: $2,000)
- Purchase of five bicycles for the older boys to ride to school (target $122)
- Our major goal is to construct the first floor of the new dormitory (target $6,850)
Our advisory team as a whole hopes that our efforts will continue to involve the entire school in realizing our collective dream for Bethania.
German Bake Sale Success for Indian Orphanage
The German Department would like to thank parents and students for their baking and eating participation in the German bake sale on October 26. The department is extremely happy to present Bethania Orphanage in India with $803.25, and hopes that this will be sufficient to help provide much needed solar panels to the buildings of the orphanage. Vielen Dank!
