Basketball Celebration a Big Success
Faculty at the Basketball Celebration
The AIS community kicked off the basketball season with an evening of fun and friendly competition on November 16. The basketball festival showcased this year's varsity, junior varsity, and middle school basketball teams. In a test of youth over experience, the players went head-to-head with the women's and men's faculty teams (youth prevailed!) before facing tough intra-squad competitions. The night culminated in a hard fought and skillful match between the varsity boys and the AIS basketball coaches.
Max Hunt, a junior on the varsity team and a primary organizer of the festival, thanked all those involved in making the event so successful. He noted that the basketball season not only got off to a great start, but the participants and supporters also helped raise $250 for the Bethania Orphanage in India. Gregg Albright, athletic director, said, "We were pleased to see so many parent and student supporters. We're looking forward to a competitive and exciting season." The head of athletics, Neil Spencer, pointed out the positive spirit the event generated among the players. He announced that the kickoff was so successful that the athletics department plans to host a festival evening at the start of each season.
The teams encourage everyone to support them by coming out to home games. Many of the high school games this season have been scheduled for Friday and Saturday nights so that parents and students alike can show their team spirit.
Game schedules are posted online. Parents who want to volunteer to keep score or collect tickets should contact athleticdirector@aischool.org. With the backing of the whole AIS community, this should be the best year yet. Go Eagles!
