'Learning to Look' Art Series Presents Pastels by Claude Bauret Allard
In December, AIS features French pastellist Claude Bauret Allard. Claude lives and works in Paris, France, and has been exhibiting her work since 1955. Claude uses handmade pastels made by the Roche family from a well-protected secret recipe used by the impressionists for their best pigments and ingredients. In a recent interview, Claude described the purpose of her work as sensitive and aesthetic rather than narrative. When she described her relationship with color, she said that today colors and light are the essence of her work, and she uses more than 1,000 colors to achieve the mixtures evident in her work.
Claude is represented by the Tew Gallery. For more information about the artist and to view her work please visit the gallery's website at www.timothytew.com (opens in new window).
The director of the gallery will be in school during December to talk directly with some of our classes about the artist and her work. We hope you enjoy her pieces, which will hang in the Sports & Activities Center.
