Boys' Cross-Country Team Wins First Ever State Title

The boys' Cross Country team won AIS's first ever State Championship in any sport on November 5 in Carrollton. The boys dominated the competition by beating three-time State Champions Landmark Christian by 23 points. This was the biggest upset of the year. The boys stayed very low key during the regular season, but they let it all out when it counted most.

The Eagles placed all five scorers in the top 20:

  • Graham Belton: 2nd, 16:48
  • Cheo Sanchez: 5th, 17:10
  • Mathieu Van Asten, 7th, 17:22
  • Joost ten Lohuis, 18th, 17:55
  • Avi Ben-Shmuel, 20th, 18:02

Rounding out the championship team were Rodrigo Ortiz and Dawit Deen. All are seniors except Deen. They are all looking forward to Track season this spring. Could there be a Track and Field championship on the horizon?
