Around Atlanta

On Thursday, November 18, we will be visiting the High Museum of Art. The High is located in a stunning building on Peachtree Street in Midtown Atlanta. The museum has a diverse permanent collection, and is part of the Woodruff Arts Center, which also includes the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and the Alliance Theater.

The High is featuring a special collection from an Amsterdam museum which includes many important works from the late 19th to early 20th centuries. These include twenty paintings and drawings by Van Gogh, as well as works by Picasso, Seurat and Mondrian. The “Van Gogh to Mondrian: Modern Art from the Kröller-Müller Museum” exhibit has digital audio guides. After we tour this exhibit, we’ll be free to visit more of the museum’s collections.

Our tour begins at 12 noon (later than most of our tours, because the museum is filled with school groups before noon); please join us either at 11 a.m. for coffee at the High Café on the lower level of the museum, or at 11:50 at the museum’s main entrance. When I know who is coming, I can help co-ordinate car pooling, and give directions and parking information. The cost is $12.
