Mondialogo Contest Brings AIS International Recognition

AIS is poised to enter a team in the second worldwide Mondialogo school contest designed to promote intercultural exchange and dialogue. In 2004, AIS produced a finalist team (just 20 teams selected out of 25,000+ participating schools) recognizing our work on an art project with a rural, Cambodian school.

Students collaborated over six months to mutually create an intercultural exhibit that included raising funds to help the school in Cambodia and communicating about vastly different life experiences.

Their joint project was displayed at the United Nations, in Paris and in Barcelona at the final judging and celebration.

The competition is jointly sponsored by UNESCO and Daimler Chrysler. Because of our school’s work with Mondialogo, Daimler Chrysler representative Ms. Valerie Becker visited AIS and presented a $5,000 gift which helped purchase computer and media equipment to convert the SAC’s Multi-Purpose room into a Multi-Media room.

As a past finalist, the Mondialogo organizers have asked AIS to take a leading role in launching the second contest and are looking forward to AIS producing another strong team. AIS will host an open invitation information session for all area schools on Wednesday, October 5, at 4 p.m.

Students in grades 9-12 are welcome to join the effort to help launch the contest and participate as a team member. Anyone who is interested is welcome to attend and can contact Mr. Tobin Bechtel, Curriculum Development Coordinator (tbechtel@aischool.org) or Andrea Feuer ’06 (afeuer@aischool.org).
