German Cakes for Indian Orphans
A bake sale organized by the German Department to help raise money for Bethania Orphanage was a huge success last school year. Piece by delicious piece, we were able to raise an unbelievable $975 for the orphanage's new roof!
Ms. Shanta's CAS group is again hard at work to support and nurture this wonderful partnership between AIS and Bethania. This year's goals are ambitious: to add a first floor to the new building, fund scholarships for Bethania's older students, and buy solar panels to heat and light the orphanage. There is a possibility that another one of our students may be able to go to India and lend a hand, as James Brindley did after he graduated in 2005.
Once again, we would like to help contribute by using the wonderful baking skills of the German community at AIS. The date set for the bake sale is October 26, and everybody in both Primary and Secondary School is welcome to bring in baked goodies. The Secondary School students and teachers will take over the day-long sale and we hope to be able to send the money we raise to fund one of the new projects. We would love to be able to raise at least $800, which, this year, translates to selling 400 pieces of cake. I know we can do it!
I will send out an "Invitation to bake" shortly before the sale and look forward to all the wonderful Torten, Kuchen, Plätzchen, and more. Dankeschoen!
