Fundraising at AIS: Answers to Parents' Frequently Asked Questions About Fundraising at AIS
What is "Circle of Friends"?
Circle of Friends is the school's primary way of raising money for added investments in our students' education. During the first half of the school year we seek donations through letters, e-mails and phone calls to parents, grandparents, foundations, corporations, and friends. When you contribute to the Circle of Friends, you create more opportunities for all of our students.
What is "The 1984 Club?"
Within the Circle of Friends is The 1984 Club, our leadership giving society named in honor of the year the school was founded. Members have contributed gifts of $1,500 or more during the fiscal year. To recognize their generosity, 1984 Club members are invited to several events throughout the year. For more information about these benefits, please visit the Alumni & Development page of our Web site.
How does my child benefit when we donate money to AIS?
Tuition pays for the daily operations of the school, such as teacher salaries, educational materials and maintaining the campus. However, it is charitable donations that make AIS a great school! Contributions help underwrite the expenses for teacher training, technology upgrades, financial aid scholarships, and improvements to the classrooms. These activities benefit your child tremendously, but are only possible through the generosity of our families.
Can I designate where my contribution goes?
Yes, you can direct your donation in support of a program that is particularly meaningful to you or your child. There are several options on the Circle of Friends brochure which will be mailed to all families in September.
Is the concept of giving unique to AIS?
No. Independent schools in the United States rely upon the generosity of their constituents to enhance their students' educational experiences. U.S. governments do not provide subsidies to independent schools.
How does AIS recognize our supporters?
We print an annual Donor Report that explains the impact charitable contributions had on AIS during the year and thanks all of our donors. Supporters are listed alphabetically according to several broad gift ranges: $1 - 499; $500 - 999; $1,000 - $1,499; etc. The actual amount of your contribution is kept confidential, and your gift – of any amount – is greatly appreciated! All donors will also receive a Circle of Friends car decal to proudly display.
Are donations to AIS tax deductible?
All cash or securities contributions to AIS, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. Please consult your tax advisor for additional information.
