A Journey of Discovery
Established through a generous anonymous donation and managed directly by our faculty, the AIS Summer Travel Study and Research Grant Program supports the professional development of teachers each summer.
Thanks to the TSRG program, I was able to go on an incredible journey of discovery to India. I had not been back to this land of my forefathers for over 14 years and I was both excited and anxious at the prospect of this adventure.
My plan was to see long-lost family members (some whom I had not seen for 27 years), experience the remarkable change that India is going through, visit some tsunami orphanages, and indulge in some TLC at Ayurvedagram, a traditional Ayurveda Center that specializes in holistic healing.
The outcome of this adventure is that I know for certain that, as a school, we can nurture newly formed bonds with a very needy orphanage in Tamil Nadu. In fact, James Brindley, who graduated from AIS in 2005 and who will be leaving for India in late September, is going to become our first student “ambassador of goodwill” to Bethania Orphanage.
So, thanks to a very generous sponsor, I have come back rejuvenated! My spirits are soaring! To quote Charles Dickens, “recalled to life” is exactly how I feel.
