Buddy Program News

To all those who participated in AIS’s 2005/06 Buddy Program, your Buddy Program Coordinators Ellen Dotts and Natalie Huyghe would like to thank you! Because we had more volunteers than needed, some of you were not assigned a buddy so those who didn’t have one last year might enjoy the experience this coming year. Keep volunteering! Look for our sign up in next summer’s mailing; every year new buddies bring different families together.

By almost all accounts, the experience was very positive with some Buddies getting together for family dinners, others for play dates, telephone calls and e-mail communications. To the newcomers, we wish you a warm welcome. To our seasoned returning families, our hats off for making this a fantastic hospitality opportunity at AIS.

The Buddy Dinner was, once again, a roaring success. We enjoyed the company of 300 Buddies and shared a wonderful meal prepared by Al and Sibel Ozelci, parents of Evrim, Grade 11, and Mehmet, Grade 9. Al and his group made this an event which will surely be talked about until next year (If you can, visit Al’s new café, Café Agora, which will open soon on Paces Ferry. We promise a great meal!).

Special thanks to our guest speakers Roy and Olga Plaut, Reid Mizell, Dr. Hawley, Dr. Brindley and Board Chair Gerry Hull. Special thanks to the Admission Office: Aileen Williams, Valérie Mayer and Enid Palmer for their support and positive feedback. Never to be forgotten is the maintenance team headed by Donice Bloodworth, who always makes our job so easy with timely set-up and swift, efficient clean-up. We could not have put together such a wonderful event without the financial support of the Parent Organization, the Admission Office, and Dr. Brindley’s office. Thanks to all of you. Until next year!
