Year of Achievements Draws to a Close
As the academic year draws to a rapid close, I would like to reflect on just a few of the achievements that have been accomplished over the last 10 months. There have been many, but I will highlight just four events that I know will have a significant impact over the years to come.
The first of these relates to the campus expansion as it evolved from the outcomes of the strategic plan. The approval of the development of Peachtree Avenue properties was but the first step in this process, but it was an important one. As the plans reach clearer definition they will be relayed to the whole community over the coming months.
The second occasion was the adoption of the Board policy on Community Principles last November. Whilst its implementation is in its infancy, its effect will be profound and allow us to stay true to our mission and core values with regard to respect. An implementation task force has been established to manage this rollout. One step forward in this journey was taken in May when the Upper School Student Council gathered in the Legacy Room to sign the first Student Council constitution. The involvement of our students in the process of embedding values of respect into our daily lives will be critical to this policy’s success.
The introduction in August of the IB Middle Years Programme is the final phase of curriculum restructuring that began many years ago. As a full IB school we now have a continuous program of instruction, common assessment procedures, consistent expectations of our students and a progression of attitudes to learning developed through the Learner Profile.
I know there are many more, but the last I will mention is the work achieved by the Parent Organization in restructuring their constitution to create a more inclusive community under a more defined umbrella. A closer working relationship with the parents, particularly within the framework of our Community Principles, will, I am sure, continue to build an even stronger community.
