CAS Group Expands to Yale University

Andrea Feuer, an alumna from the Class of ’06, wrote in recently to inform us of the success that the CAS group Aprendiendo Inglés Sólido (A.I.S.), which translates to “Learning Solid English,” is having beyond the school and the Atlanta community. In her first year at Yale University, Andrea established A.I.S.; the group is already affiliated with Yale University as an official undergraduate organization and a member of Dwight Hall. Dwight Hall is the center for public service and social justice for New Haven. Each organization must go through a rigorous application and interviewing process before it is admitted to Dwight Hall, meaning that it is quite a feat to become a member of this organization. Only two other groups besides A.I.S were admitted this year.

Julia Taylor (a senior at Atlanta International School and president of A.I.S.) and Bianca Paggi (11th grade, vice-president) played important roles in the success of A.I.S. at Yale, thanks to their support and leadership of the CAS group at school. The A.I.S. chapter in Connecticut is already tutoring after school at a community center and working with elementary school students and their grandparents to improve their English. In addition, the organization just won a $500 grant. Congratulations to our own CAS group, which has raised enough money over the years to provide a scholarship for a student at the Solidarity School where the group tutors. Without their hard work, the Yale chapter would have been more challenging to establish.
