Ten Days in Martinique

Fun. Exciting. Amazing. That's what I call the definition of Martinique. Oh, and don't forget tanning! I went there on April 17 and came back on April 26. Everyone in the French track in Grade 5 went there, and we had the time of our lives, even the teachers! Mme. Carine, Mrs. Dear, Mme. Cornez, M. Alain, and M. Aurélien all came with us. We went sailing, kayaking and fishing, and we even climbed up an active volcano, Mt. Pélée! Of course, it didn't erupt while we were climbing it. We also went to Aqualand, an amazing water park. It was a blast.

Martinique is a very cultural country. The people are very kind. When you're around them, you feel safe because you know that they're nice and very welcoming. That's what it felt like when we went shopping for souvenirs with our small groups. Everyone was nice to us. When we went to visit the old folks, they told us that in Martinique you let out all your feelings, and you should forget all your worries and be happy. So, that's how we felt. Also, some people are fun to listen to, like the storyteller who came to talk to us and tell us stories. He came at noon, and he told us some great morals about life.

There are some plants that grow there that you can't easily find here in Atlanta, like star fruit and sugarcane. We got to suck the juice out of sugarcanes and taste it. It was sweet! We also ate the local mangoes and bananas. Food in Martinique was very good and always well cooked. We didn't have the opportunity to taste the traditional food, but we did eat fish when we went fishing. It was the fish we caught in the "Pêche à la Senne"; and the man who owned the fishing net cooked them for us over a fire on the beach. A woman made a delicious sauce to go along with the fish. It was such a treat.

When we left to go to Martinique, we were all anxious. But we had an awesome time there, especially at the bungalows we slept in, with the beach near us. Then we all came back to Atlanta tanned and happy, with plenty of souvenirs and memories of Martinique.
