The Great Excursion to Costa Rica

Our Spanish class had an amazing experience, one that I will always remember—we went to Costa Rica. We stayed with a correspondent family; mine was very sympathetic and took care of me very well. We each stayed with a student and we all had very fun times with them. We climbed the great Poás volcano and saw what a crater looks like. It’s a great image, it looks like a bowl with what appears as a lake of cotton in the middle and smoke rises above it. We got a taste of school in Costa Rica and met many nice teachers and students. Over the weekend we all got to do what our host family thought would be fun. I went to a beautiful beach called Punta Leona and I experienced the waves of the Pacific. Later, we had to say goodbye to our correspondent family to go to a place in the Northeast of Costa Rica called Tortuguero, a protected sanctuary for turtles. We boys in the Spanish class got the chance to stay with Dr. Brindley in a cabin. We went on nature tours and saw many different animals including some of the most beautiful species of birds, caymans, one turtle, a tree sloth, monkeys and many others. We had a great experience there.

This trip has given everybody who went a chance to try a new life in a new environment. We had the chance to explore the culture of Costa Rica. I also think that it has brought us all closer and taught us how to act as a group. This was a great journey!
