Siblings Win Awards for Chinese Stories
A writing contest took place at the end of March for three schools that belong to the Atlanta Contemporary Chinese Academy (ACCA), one in Cobb County, one at Emory University and one in Duluth. In all they had more than 120 participants. Myrtil Mitanga (Grade 6) and her brother Keanu (Grade 5F) placed third together in the group of seven prize winners in their grade group.
For Keanu’s group, the story had to be 150 characters long and his topic was "Why I learn Chinese." Myrtil’s story had to be 250 characters and she wrote about "The Panda as a special Chinese symbol." The titles are translations from Chinese. The essays were evaluated by the teachers of all three schools. Myrtil and Keanu were recognized at a ceremony to honor the winners on May 19 at the campus in Duluth.
