CAS Group's Support Funds College Education for Indian Students

Bethania Senior Will Start University in September

Members of the Bethania Orphanage CAS group are delighted to announce that the results are out, and Kubendran, a Bethania senior, has passed his high school exams and will start college in September. Unfortunately Bharathi, the other senior, will have to wait until the end of June for her high school exam results. We send a huge thank you to Mr. Greenall's advisory for supporting Kubendran.

The support of our AIS community has given these two young people the opportunity to fulfill their dreams. We have funds for the first year of college for Kubendran and Bharathi, so next year our fundraising target is to guarantee three more years of college for them, and also to build the second floor of the dormitory so that the boys have a proper place to sleep.

Mrs. Shanta Begins New Non-Profit Organization

Mrs. Shanta has started SABHA Inc., a not-for-profit organization, whose acronym stands for Schools/AIDS/Bethania/Hemophilia/Asia. Zoë Meroney '06 and Kristine Vanijcharoenkarn '05, AIS alumnae, are board members of SABHA, and Jennifer Millkey '05 is the secretary. Mrs. Shanta is president of SABHA, and Zoë also serves as vice president. SABHA will work closely with AIS's Bethania CAS group and with HFI, Hemophilia Federation of India.

SABHA's first volunteer to Bethania is Aude Mulliez '04, who will be at Bethania for eight weeks this summer.

In the 2008-2009 school year, Mrs. Shanta will hand over the leadership of Bethania CAS Group to Mr. Tony Greenall, in order to be able to dedicate all of her time to SABHA.

Kristine Vanijcharoenkarn writes: "It is so nice to be back in the AIS community after these two years. I am excited and honored to be part of SABHA, and cannot wait to see what the next couple of years will bring. Back at Yale, I hope to kick start a community service group that will fundraise for SABHA's upcoming goals, as well as spread awareness of our mission. Eventually, I would like to register the group as part of Dwight Hall, a leadership and community service umbrella at Yale, with which I will be working this summer.

"In other recent news, Mrs. Shanta and I have also been in contact with a clinic in Nepal, and hope to extend SABHA's aid to them in the near future. Thank you to all who helped to make SABHA possible through the inspiration of Bethania!"
