Track and Field State Champions
Only three AIS girls entered the girls’ state championships for Track and Field in early May, but they made their presence felt with an astounding three gold medals and a fourth place win for the school.
Laura Geronimo, a junior, was the pole vault champ. She came second last year (9-0), and this year her 10-foot, 4-inch jump was not only a personal record and a school record, it was the second highest of the whole competition.
Another junior, Cassie Huntley was our high jump champ, also coming in fourth in the triple jump. Cassie came fourth in high jump last year, and she had no misses to win the high jump this championship at 5-foot, 0-inches (her personal record is 5’ 1”). Cassie set her personal record by a foot to get her fourth place in the Triple Jump. (She was also a starter on our state championship qualifying soccer team.)
Freshman Leah Hampton may be new to the state championship but her confidence made her our triple jump champion. She increased her personal record by five feet this year to be a real success in her first high school season.
Charles Vanijcharoenkarn, a junior, placed third at the boys’ state championship in the pole vault with a school record tying 12-0.
