News from the Mathematics Department

The international results from the Canadian Mathematics Competition arrived in May. These results gave us the opportunity to compare the performance of our students against other students from around the world.

Twenty-five students from Grade 9 entered the Pascal contest. The team consisted of the three top scoring students. They were Adrien Pellerin, Adam Wadley and Maxine Litré, who scored 150 points, 142 points and 140 points respectively out of a maximum 150 points. Their total score of 342 points placed them third on the Team Honour Roll, an outstanding achievement.

In Grade 10, we had 19 students sit the Cayley contest. The team, consisting of Siri Belton, Martijn ten Lohuis and Arian Burns, achieved a score of 374, which placed them 18th overall.

In the Fermat contest for Grade 11 we entered six students. The team, consisting of Nico Hawley-Weld, Matthew Keeter and Charles Vanijcharoenkarn, achieved a score of 362 points, which placed them 16th overall.

More detailed results, along with the dates for next year’s contests, can be accessed through the department’s website: www.aischool.org/uppermaths.

Congratulations once again to all students who took part in these contests.
