National Latin Exam Results 2006
One hundred and forty-eight students – our largest entry ever – took the National Latin Exam earlier this year and just over half scored Laude Digni! Students were asked 40 questions concerning the Latin language, Roman geography, history, culture and mythology and, last but not least, mottoes. For the first time ever we entered students at Level IV, a tribute to the growth of our Latin program.
The following students attained Gold Medal Status:
Level I - Arsalan Akhavan, Paolo Fornasini, Samuel Jactel, Caroline Schmitt, Zachary Taylor (all Grade 7)
Level II – Michael Phillips (Grade 8)
Level III – Emily Phillips (Grade 9)
Twenty-five students at the Intro level were lauded as "Outstanding", while 14 were given the award of "Special".
In Latin I, 5 students were awarded gold medals as summa cum laude. Ten students were awarded silver medals as maxima cum laude. Six students were magna cum laude and seven cum laude.
In Latin II, one student was awarded a gold medal as summa cum laude, and one student was cum laude.
In Latin III (Prose), four students won awards, one each as summa cum laude (gold medal), maxima cum laude (silver medal), magna cum laude and cum laude.
In Latin IV, two students were magna cum laude.
In total, 75 students were commended.
Congratulationes his discipulis bene meritis a Magistris Schlicker-Martinez, Kukielski et Shaw-Smith!
One sad note: we are losing the Imperator of our Latin program here at AIS. We say a fond farewell to our esteemed colleague, Magister David Kukielski. He is bound to enrich with his leadership his new school, St. Luke’s Lutheran School in Culpeper, Virginia and it only remains for us to thank him for his years of dedicated and joyful service, and to wish him all the very best. Bona fortuna!
