Lose Yourself in Summer Reading
In the spirit of celebrating the worth and pleasures of reading above and beyond the school year, many schools provide their students with a list of books either required or recommended for summer reading. We wanted to do the same, though our list is perhaps a little different from most in that we have chosen to make evident to our readers the purpose behind our choices. Instead of solely a selection of ‘classics’ and award-winners, we have chosen books that have given our teachers and that we hope will give our students particular joy and inspiration.
Please note that ALL Middle and Upper School students are REQUIRED to read specific titles that have been chosen for them in ADDITION to reading other selections from the lists on the school website. Readers will find a mélange of characters, themes and purposes, much like those represented in our shifting literature curricula from year to year.
The REQUIRED SUMMER READING lists for English and each student’s second language can be found at the following address: www.aischool.org/summerreading/. All classes will have required projects and reports to produce at the beginning of the new school year, so we encourage students to take along their books as they travel and enjoy summer vacation.
