AIS Student Honored by CARE International
Eden Smith
CARE International has awarded a significant honor to one of our juniors. Each year, ten students in 11th grade are selected by the CARE Corps Teens Program for an all expenses paid international trip, including airfare, for service and education. This is the first year AIS has had a student compete for this CARE program. Eden Smith, after submitting a resume and being interviewed, was fortunate enough to be selected to travel to Peru this summer. CARE has worked in Peru since 1970 on projects such as food security, agriculture/community development, education and health. The students will be able to participate in some of these projects with CARE workers, and will take pride in knowing that their efforts make a real difference in people’s lives.
The judges select the students based on their social responsibility, keen understanding of international issues and, most of all, their enthusiasm and passion for service. CARE commends them for their commitment to upholding the dignity of people in the developing world. This is the first time an AIS student has been selected and it is an excellent fit with the school’s mission statement and core values. Students interested in applying to participate in the future may ask Eden for more information.
