Learning to Look

This May, AIS will be displaying a oil painting from Sabre Esler who lives and works in Atlanta. Esler’s work covers an astonishing range, from figurative to landscape, cityscape and still life subjects. Her vivid palette, impasto textures and expressionist spirit create a unified composition. Esler describes her work, “Where does the painting come from? Why do I paint? It is a question that roams through my thoughts often. After much pondering, I think that I am not alone is saying that it is being true to self and reaching into the soul that brings forth the best creative process. So, my paintings are soul responses to all that I see and all that touches me and speaks to me. I try to be open to the still quiet moments in all of life that surrounds our universe; being an observer of the details of our physical surroundings and the sensual reaction to that physicality. I ask myself, how does it feel? Observing the essence of the human spirit and the interactions, to me, is a key ingredient to describing our soulful existence.”
