The 2008 Spring Benefit, Passport to Italy, which took place on April 12 broke a new record and netted over $330,000 to support AIS.

Chaired by Anita Leopold, the Spring Benefit was once again a sold-out event. The Benefit was held at AIS, and featured a new layout that introduced the new gym as the dinner and live auction venue. The new gym was beautifully and completely transformed by Gloriosa, Atlanta Sound & Lighting and the Spring Benefit décor committee, chaired by Darcie Adler.

The climate-controlled venue ensured a good time was had by all. The entire night was a magical affair kicked off by speeches from Headmaster, Robert Brindley, and Honorary Chair, Angela Turner, and finished with fireworks when the band Y.O.U. took the stage and rocked out.

All areas of the event experienced growth helping make this year’s Spring Benefit so successful. A special thanks goes to our corporate sponsors, and the sponsorship committee chaired by Kim Valeri and Eleanor Ratchford, and to the efforts of auctioneer Jan Bilthouse and the many parents and corporations who donated and purchased fantastic trips and unique items at the live auction.

Other highlights of the evening included a new revenue record broken with our silent auction, chaired by Lynn-Anne Huck and Marcelle DeCuir; a beautifully designed silent auction set-up by Betsy Carpenter; and a new Student Art display by Lisa Cannon Taylor. Congratulations to the DelCampo family, winners of the Tuition Drawing.

A huge thanks also needs to be given to members of the volunteer committee for all they gave to the Benefit:

What makes the Spring Benefit so special is the opportunity it provides for the students to give back to their community. Thanks to the hard work and creativity of the Primary and Middle School students, under the direction of art teachers Olivia Lorton, Joyce O’Brien, Jennifer Pendergast and Marie-Laurence de Potesta, our Student Art category had one of its strongest and most profitable years.

Net proceeds from the event will be used to support financial aid, faculty development, academic programs and the general operations of the school.
