Students Speak Out for Peace

Students in the Primary and Middle Schools recently participated in the Inspirational Messages of Peace Contest organized by the International World Peace Rose Gardens, an organization committed to promoting world peace. Out of 125 entries, Dr. Brindley selected ten winning poems from which the contest organizers chose three final winners from AIS. Congratulations to James Shepherd, Caroline Hutchison and Matei Dan whose entries were selected by International World Peace Rose Gardens judges. The students’ poems will be engraved on plaques and displayed in the World Peace Rose Garden at the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site for one year.

All participants will be recognized at awards presentations at the school in early May, and some of the students who wrote the ten winning poems will also be reading them at a ceremony at the World Peace Rose Gardens on May 8.

Congratulations to all the participants for sharing their thoughts on peace!

We work together like a

We live in peace all Day and

Smiles
By Caroline Hutchison

Flowers in the Rose Garden turn their faces
To see the sun’s smile.
Each flower is dressed
In its own unique color,
Symbolizing countries and people.
Above them,
Flags fly in harmony
There is Peace.

Peace
By Matei Dan

Peace.
A virtue.
Calmness of mind,
Clear heart and soul.
Love and friendship together thrive
To make the world united again.
Adults laughing and having fun,
Children sharing happy thoughts.
Turning the Earth
Into heaven.

Pride of Peace
By Sahir Shahryar

Peace controls the world,
Peace’s sails are never furled,
Peace is our hope for tomorrow
Peace prohibits any sorrow.
Let’s decide
About peace’s pride.

We need peace
By Theo Viala

Peace is near,
Peace is here.

Believe it,
We’ll have it!

With respect,
We’ll accept

Our neighbors,
And others.

Let the dove,
Bring some love

Peace is near,
Peace is here.

The quote of a lifetime
By Julia Plott

“You are as good as anyone”
Martin Luther King Jr.’s mother taught him
We are as good; we share the same sun
We are as good, we all have love
Now we are the teachers

Garden of Peace

We are the flowers
The flowers of a garden
We work together
To form a community
We are different colors
White, red, pink and purple

Brave and Wise

A brave man,
A wise man,

Everything a man should be,
Fought for his heart,
But also for his people,

He was Martin Luther King
