Movies of the Month: Double Feature
The end of the year is being celebrated with a double feature on Saturday, May 19: an Asian movie will show at 1:30 p.m. and a German movie at 3:15 p.m., both in the LPAC. Pack up the whole family and prepare for an afternoon of entertainment.
The Asian Culture Club presents the animated feature film "Dà nào tin gng" or "Monkey King Wreaks Havoc in Heaven" at 1:30 p.m. in the LPAC. The movie was produced by the Shanghai Animation Film Studio in 1964, at the height of its creative powers (just before the misguided "Cultural Revolution"). It recounts the first chapters of the 16th century classic (X yóu jì) or "Journey to the West," where Sn wù kng (Son Gok in Japanese), a monkey born from the stone of primal chaos, is invited to the Heavenly Kingdom by Yù huáng dà dì, the Jade Emperor of Heaven, and ends up becoming the Monkey King. The film is in Mandarin Chinese, with English subtitles, with a fantastic soundtrack of classical Chinese instruments. It is suitable for all ages.
The German movie to be shown at 3:15 p.m. in the LPAC will be "Pünktchen und Anton." The movie is a modern version of the novel by Erich Kästner. Anton grows up fatherless. His mother becomes ill and he takes over her job. Pünktchen comes from a wealthy family, but her parents do not have time for her. The boy and the girl try to find the money needed for Anton’s mother. The movie has English subtitles and is suitable for all ages.
