Grade 7 Students Succeed in Duke University Program
Every year our Grade 7 students participate in the Duke University Talent Identification Program (TIP). These students can qualify to take the SAT or ACT depending on scores for certain standardized tests, and the result is the identification of academically talented 7th graders. Duke TIP provides the participants with comparative information concerning their academic abilities and resources for unique educational opportunities, with the goal being to assist those young people with excellent mathematical or verbal aptitude. Students are provided with information about their abilities and introduced to a network of services and programs that can help them plan effectively for the coming high school years, and learn more about educational opportunities and options for the future.
In order to qualify at the state level, the students must score a 510 or higher on the verbal section and a 520 or higher on the math section of the SAT. This year, of the 13 students who participated, seven qualified to be recognized at the state level. They are Orly Brooker, Chloe Colberg, Anneliese Hermann, Layla Khuri, Alexander Richard, Liam Sohi and Mitchell Tracy.
Layla and Alexander qualified at the Grand level, scoring higher than 650 in both the math and verbal sections of the SAT. They will be recognized at the Grand Recognition Ceremony on Monday, May 21 at Duke University.
