Music “Notes”

The AIS Department of Music has scheduled four major events during the month of May, all free programs and all open to the public. On Friday, May 5 at 1:15 p.m., the Primary School performance ensembles will present a concert for students in Grades 2-5 as well as parents and friends. The PS Chorus (Ms. Karen Peters, conductor), PS Strings (Ms. Herrad Welp, conductor), PS Grade 4 Band (Mr. Albert Soskin, conductor), and the PS Grade 5 Band (Dr. Ron Howard, conductor) will share an international program of musical treasures to close out the school year.

Tuesday, May 16, will see a pair of offerings from the Music Department. Weather permitting, various groups will perform outdoors during the lunch blocks either in Plaut Plaza or under the pavilion. Groups scheduled to perform include the Middle School Symphonic and Jazz Bands (Dr. Ron Howard, director), MS Chorus (Ms. Julie Harvey, conductor), as well as “Piper’s Corner” and at least one other student rock band. That same evening, at 7 p.m. in the Auditorium, the MS performance ensembles described above, along with the MS Strings (Ms. Suzanna Jemsby, conductor) will present their final formal program of the year.

Concluding the most active season of music performance in the history of AIS will be the AIS Chamber Players recital, Tuesday, May 23 at 7 p.m. in the Auditorium, featuring performances from students, staff and faculty encompassing a wide range of musical tastes.
