CASIE/AIS to Host International College Fair

On September 29 and 30, the Center for the Advancement and Study of International Education (CASIE) and AIS are jointly hosting an international college fair. IB (International Baccalaureate) Diploma students from schools throughout the Southeast, together with students from international schools across the country, have been invited to attend. Early indications are that there will be well over 250 students (many with their parents) attending to meet with representatives from colleges and universities from throughout the English-speaking world. It is expected that there will be about 40 colleges and universities attending, with approximately half from the United States and the others from the U.K., Ireland, Canada and Australia.

This is the first time that U.S.-based IB students have had the chance to compare universities around the world for their undergraduate degree courses. All universities attending have expressed specific interest in recruiting IB Diploma students and include several highly prestigious institutions from all of the countries.

In addition to the individual college display booths, there will be a plenary session at which keynote speakers will explain how U.S. corporations and U.S. graduate programs view undergraduate qualifications from other countries. There will also be sessions outlining the application process to universities in the U.K., Australia and Canada.

CASIE, based at Atlanta International School, sees this exciting venture as one further way to advance the ideals of international education. Most in the AIS community are aware that CASIE organizes teacher training workshops at times when AIS is not in session. This year there will be around 1,200 educators attending the five training sessions offered. However, CASIE is much more than simply a provider of IB workshops. Year-round, CASIE provides consulting services to public and private schools on language-related issues, as well as IB programs. The CrossWorlds program developed by CASIE is specifically designed to help schools look at various diversity-related issues. Also, CASIE’s Research and Development Committee is involved in developing a database for various research projects involving international education, with the specific goal of tracking ongoing performance of adults with IB diploma credentials from their high school years.

CASIE was the brainchild of former AIS Board Chair Monique Seefried, who now serves as Chair of the Council of Foundation of the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO). CASIE is a completely separate not-for-profit organization, but works closely with AIS in most of its ventures. Representatives of the board, faculty and administration of AIS serve on the Board of Directors of CASIE, but there is a majority of outside educational leaders.
