Track Meet Highlights

The AIS Middle School Track and Field Team successfully started the season with a field meet at Davis and a track meet at Epstein.

Winning performances and personal best performances were registered in most events MS athletes were entered in. The Team was led by the senior members: Raul Bascumbe (3 firsts), Alice Morrison (3 firsts), Alexander Thomas (2 firsts), Mustafa Thomas (1 first), Salo de Lima (1 first), Marie Lindheim (1 first), Darius Scott (1 first). Adding depth to the team were Keiren Kristensen, Emily Knutsen, Bennett Brownlow, and Giles Geddes who enjoyed second and third place finishes in their events.

Equally impressive were the performances turned in by the MS Girls Hurdle Team, led by Lexi Shields (first), Shea Johnson (second, Olivia Lodise (third) and Julia Masselos (fourth). Further, the MS Boys Discus and Shot Put Team -- with every thrower placing, Keiren Kristensen, Darius Scott, Mitchell Tracy, Mustafa Thomas and Douglas Branch.

Lastly, AIS Relay teams finished first and second in both the Girls 4x100m run and Boys 4x100m run. Girls’ relay team members were Alice Morrison, Folu Ogunyemi, Emily Knutson, Inye Nesegbe, Norlethia Harris, Olivia Lodise, Lexi Shields and Marie Lindheim. The Boys’ relay team members are Raul Bascumbe, Alex Rodriguez, Salo de Lima, Keiren Kristensen, Darius Scott, Will Gendron, Giles Geddes and Bennett Brownlow.

Coach Peter McKenney is very pleased with the performances of his athletes. “This is an outstanding start to the season” he said.

Varsity Track and Field is off to a great start. AIS has a small group of athletes, each of whom competes in at least three events. Despite the large number of students Holy Innocents and Pace can pull from, AIS Girls’ team was able to remain very competitive, scoring 86 points, behind Pace’s 112 points and HIES’ 104 points in the first meet of the season. AIS Boys also finished in a close third place with 81 points, behind Cross Keys 109 and HEIS 92. Highlights of the meet were wins by Lindsey Sanborn at 1600m, Joanna Palmers in the high jump, Sarah McKenney in both the discus and shot put, and Merlin Fabian in the discus.

Girls Varsity Results:

In a very close Girls’ 100 Meter Dash, Hortense Badarani took 3rd, just .6 of a second out of 1st, with 14.17. Joanna Palmer also scored points in 6th place, with 14.80.

In the Girls’ 200 Meter Dash, Hortense Badarani took 2nd place with a 29.88, nipping Cross Keys at the wire.

In a close Girls’ 400 Meter, Mikela Gordon took 3rd place with 1:09:12.

In the Girls’ 800 Meter, Lindsay Sanborn was edged out of by J. Millkey of Pace by 2 seconds, finishing in 2:37.00. Claire Colberg 3:00.00 and Ariana Fabian 3:01.0 picked up points in 5th and 6th places.

In the Girls’ 1600 Meter, the tables were turned as Sanborn left Millkey 9 seconds behind, with 5:41.0. Claire Colberg finished 7th with 6:49.0.

In the Girls’ 4x100m Relay, Badarani, Palmer, Lucic, and John ran the fastest time this year with 59.38.

In the Girls’ High Jump, Joanna Palmer jumped 2 inches higher than everyone else, winning the event, 4-06-.00, beating Mt. Paran who was favored to win.

In the Girls’ Discus, Sarah McKenney out threw the competition by 12ft 06in, with an 87-07 throw. Siri Belton took 4th place with a throw of 56-01.

Sarah McKenney doubled in the field events, winning the Shot Put with a throw of 26-04.00.

Boys Varsity Results:

In the Boys 400m two runners were under a minute, J Taylor finishing in 2nd place, 59.22 and Leatherwood finished in 4th place 59.63.

In the Boys 800m J Taylor and Charles Laurent picked up points with 4th and 6th place finishes.

Boys 1600m, Charles Laurent finished 3rd, 5:35 and Grayson Gibbs in 6:10.

Boys 3200m Grayson Gibbs picked up points finishing in 5th, 12:58.

In the Shot Put Richie Lopez threw at 34-01.00 for 3rd place, and Ryan Kristensen picking up a point with a 29-08.0

Boys Discus, Merlin Fabian threw 12-03 in front of his nearest competitor, with 112-10. Richie Lopez also picked up points with a 71-09.

All the students are looking forward to the next match and expect to do well and improve on their personal best results.
