Parent Organization News

On March 15, your Parent Organization Council voted and approved the amended PO Bylaws to take effect immediately. A warm thank you to our community for the feedback we received on the document. The PO has been planning to make some of these refinements as a result of the feedback we received from our community last year.

Some of our changes have been structural—building a complete financial statement with all of our activities and monies accounted for, as well as streamlining communications. Both goals are necessary to work in accordance with our school's governance. We have also worked very hard this year to build a more inclusive community at AIS. All of our activities moving forward will be supported in one PO calendar with one PO goal—to include all parents and build community.

We have brought together our associations under a shared PO umbrella with the goal of bringing parity across the groups while recognizing and supporting each group's focus. Based on our new bylaws, our associations have become cultural groups whose goal is to promote cultural awareness through sponsorship of various events and activities for our community. In some cases, our associations will choose a new name to reflect the culture they represent. Each association president was asked to design a calendar of events representing their cultural group's activities to be added to our PO master calendar. Each association president was also given the opportunity to have their respective group recognized and accepted by the PO Council during our March 15 meeting. Based on the new bylaws, any group not represented by their president on March 15 will now need to present a new mission, vision, and Cultural Group Representative to the Headmaster and the PO Council during a scheduled PO meeting. This process is spelled out in the new bylaws as posted on the school website. This is a wonderful opportunity for parents who have cultural interests that are not currently represented.

We welcome your questions and feedback as we design the future! The dynamics of our community with all its diversities will enrich all of our different cultures through its various activities—inclusive of all, while supporting the mission and vision of AIS.
