Lobby Named in Honor of Cathie Tuohy Wattles
On March 20, AIS President David Hawley, along with members of the Tuohy and Wattles families and AIS faculty and staff, unveiled a plaque in the entry lobby of the Sports & Activities Center in honor of the life and legacy of Cathie Tuohy Wattles. Cathie was, from 1987 to 2002, a very active and beloved member of the AIS community as a parent, Parent Organization volunteer, contributor to “Cooking Without Borders”, assistant to the Head of Upper School, adventure trip leader, substitute teacher for many and math teacher. Those who spoke during the unveiling ceremony commented upon Cathie’s contagious enthusiasm for life and how it continues to influence many current and former students, parents and teachers.
The naming of this entry lobby was made possible through a generous capital gift from Russ and Ann Morton, parents of Madeline and Alex Morton. The Mortons have since moved to New York City. They wanted their gift to honor an individual at AIS who made a significant impact on the lives of our students. The engraving on the plaque captures Cathie’s spirit and challenges us all to live our lives fully and energetically:
"This entrance lobby to Atlanta International School’s Sports & Activities Center is dedicated to celebrate the life of Cathie Tuohy Wattles, whose commitment, courage, spirit, and energy challenge and inspire us to lead a life of passion, activity, and joy."
