Internet Safety Evening for Parents

Can you answer yes to any of these questions below?

1. Does your student have a computer with internet?

2. Is that computer in his/her bedroom?

3. Does your child enter chat rooms, get on myspace.com, or blog?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you should spend the evening of April 18 with us at school. Our guest that evening will be Jeff Dess, an expert on how students use the computer in ways we never imagined. Articles on the evening news, and most recently in the AJC, educated parents about the abuses of myspace.com and other websites—abuses that can put our children in danger.

These websites are no secret to most teens; yet parents know very little about them. Many schools, including AIS, are so concerned about cyber safety that they are instituting programs for students and parents. All of our children—Grades 4-12—will be spending time with Mr. Dess. Grade 4 and 5 parents have already met with him. All other interested parents should put Tuesday, April 18 at 7 p.m. in the Auditorium on their family calendars. Adults only, please!
