AIS Represented at Three Chess Tournaments

The AIS Upper School Tournament Chess Team represented our school in three tournaments this spring. The newest team members, 9th graders Joshua Handford, Michael Heard, Mehmet Ozelci and Rohan Thompson, along with Team Captain, Cian Ofaolain (grade 11) represented AIS at the final event for the academic year, the 2006 Georgia High School Team Scholastic Championship at Emory University in March.

Although team competitions have ended for the school year, AIS team members will continue to play as individuals in remaining tournaments.

On Saturday, March 26, Rohan Thompson and Cian Ofaolain competed in the 2006 Georgia Open Individual Scholastic Championship. Cian Ofaolain won first place (tie). As 2006 Georgia Open State Individual Scholastic Co-Champion, Cian will compete in the 2006 Georgia Closed Individual Scholastic Championship in April.

The AIS Upper School Tournament Chess Team meets on Fridays after school and is still looking for new members. For more information, contact Cian Ofaolain at cofaolain@aischool.org or Dr. Yvonne Singh, Chess Mom.
