AIS’s International House of Technology (iHOT) robotics team and their robot “Mort Subite” successfully competed in the Peachtree Regional FIRST Robotics competition on March 3-5.
The iHOT team was one of 46 teams participating in this year’s regional competition. During the three days, iHOT partnered with different teams and competed in multiple matches. Mort Subite was one of the few robots capable of stacking multiple tetrahedrons on a goal and earned a great deal of respect from the other teams for this capability. While damaged by other robots in several matches, the team members and the mentors were able to repair the robot so that it was able to compete in every match.
In addition to competing vigorously in every match, the iHOT robotics team won the Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers Entrepreneurship Award and the Autodesk Visualization Award. The Entrepreneurship Award recognizes a team that displays entrepreneurial enthusiasm and the vital business skills for a self-sustaining program. Our team’s Robots Save Lives program, which is dedicated to building awareness of landmine issues and how technology can be used to save lives, contributed to our winning this award.
The Visualization Award honors excellence in student animation and is based on the creativity, concept and technical execution of the animation. The animation, created by Matthew Keeter, Charles Vanijcharoenkarn, Peter Manidis, Florian Colombel, and Alex Gutierrez, will now go on to compete for a National Award at the National Competition at the Georgia Dome on April 21-23.
Congratulations to all members of the team for their hard work and success!
