Parent Organization News

Congratulations to Sports Boosters

The Sports Boosters have raised the money for a soccer scoreboard, and expect to purchase one soon! In other sports news, for the first time this year, AIS has offered a roller hockey organization. Although it is more widely known by the students than the parents, the team is in a championship this week.

Healthy Eating Cafeteria Initiative

The Healthy Cafeteria committee has been active and is currently coming up with recommendations and suggestions. The committee plans to report to the PO Council later in the spring. The major points of proposals would not be implemented until the 2006-07 school year, but there is the possibility for some changes during 2005-06.

Parent Education

Over 20 parents currently are attending the “Love and Logic” parenting class. The priorities for the next school year include enhancing parenting resources on the AIS website and organizing parenting speakers.

Update from the Board’s Diversity Committee

David Hawley has reported to the PO the steps the school is taking regarding the question of whether each child has at least one adult at the school who knows him or her well. Last year’s parent survey showed that about 70% of the parents thought that someone did know their child well, with the numbers in the Middle School being the lowest. The school is planning a student survey and some one-on-one interviews in grades 4 -12 to gauge students’ feelings on this. The current plan would be for an outsider to interview a representative sample of students in each of these grades.

Fundraising

Fundraising next year for the PO at AIS will remain the same in the 2005-06 year, but the PO will continue to work towards change that is appropriate for our school community. Sally Foster will continue next year, although we hope to further emphasize internet sales. We are searching for a chairperson for the next school year.

Thank you to all our parents who continue to volunteer and help within the AIS community.
