Madison Scott Looks Forward to Bright Future in Basketball

If you are looking for AIS student, Madison Scott, these days there are two places you will most likely find her. In the library, hunched over a stack of books and applying herself to her studies or “in the paint,” as Madison states with a broad smile.

Madison is a sophomore at AIS and is helping to lead the Varsity Girls Basketball Team this season. The “in the paint” reference, is a basketball term indicating Madison likes to play and earns her keep in the “Key” area on the court; literally the painted region under the basket. With the team on offense, it is the prime area for co-coordinating plays, driving to the basket to score and offensive rebounding; on defense, the paint is the area for blocking opponent’s shots and defensive rebounding. The paint area gets very physical, with plenty of pushing, elbow swinging and crashes to the floor. It is an area of the court that demands respect, and Madison has the sores, scrapes and bruises to prove it!

Madison has built up an impressive basketball resume this year. She has been a started on the AIS team all year; she ranks number 1 in blocked shots and number 2 in rebounds in the Conference; she has been ranked in the state of Georgia as high as the 25th best overall player and an outstanding ranking of 63rd in the country! Madison believes her strengths are in free throws (foul shots) and rebounding, and she states she needs to work on dribbling and consistency in shooting.

Along with playing on the AIS Varsity team, Madison also plays in the AAU Summer basketball league (Georgia Pistols). Several top-level universities have taken notice of Madison’s determination on the court. Emory University, University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill and West Virginia University have all been in contact with Madison for future consideration of playing at the University level.

Madison has been a student at AIS for 12 years, and she began playing on the Varsity Basketball Team in her freshman year. Basketball has definitely been embedded in the Scott family. Her father Darius, was an outstanding basketball player, suiting up with the Harlem Globetrotters; her mother Catalina, is actively involved with the AIS basketball program, selling game tickets, concessions, and game admission sales and is a strong supporter of the AIS team in the stands; and brother Darius, in grade 8 plays in the JV basketball team. Madison states she would like to study Pre-Medicine at university.

There will hopefully be a couple more spots that we will find Madison Scott in the future -- as a starter of a top-notch university basketball program, a member of the US Olympic Team or suiting up with the Women’s Professional Basketball League. Bravo to you Madison!
