Recycling Contest a Success

Recycling contest a success

During the month of January, the Secondary School Recycling Club organized a recycling contest to raise awareness of this very important activity. Over a three-week period, students brought in 2600 plastic bottles, 180 printer cartridges and 130 cell phones. Some of the recyclable material came from Primary School students, and we would like to thank them for participating. Ms. Jemsby's advisory won for Upper School with 458 points, while Ms. Martinez's won for the Middle School with 518 points. These two advisories won a pizza and soda party. Here is the ranking for the remaining advisories:

  • US second place: Ms. Mischaikow with 235 points
  • MS second place: Ms. Barrio with 470 points
  • MS third place: Mr. Kukielski with 407 points
  • MS fourth place: Ms. Babiar with 320 points
  • MS fifth place: Ms. Collela with 198 points

The money raised for the used cartridges and cell phones will be given to Heifer International, an organization whose main goal is to fight hunger all over the world. Heifer International promotes sustainable agriculture through the gift of animals and education.

Although the contest is over, recycling is not. Please continue to deposit paper and plastic in the bins placed throughout the school and remember to bring your used cartridges and cell phones which can be put in the bins located in the US, MS, and PS offices and the library. Thank you to all of you!
