The AIS community is pleased to welcome Marsha Huitt as the next Head of Middle School, effective July 1, 2006. Marsha was chosen after an extensive international search that brought four highly qualified candidates to AIS.

All four candidates went through an intensive interview process where they met with many different groups: Middle School parent representatives, an open parent forum, faculty, staff, the Middle School Student Council, group leaders, curriculum coordinators, the Senior Management Team, the AIS President, representatives of the Board of Trustees, and the Headmaster. Marsha made a strong impression as the best person to lead our Middle School.

Her background and qualifications are extensive. Marsha has been the Head of Middle School and a teacher at Valwood School in Valdosta, Georgia, since April 1988, where she is responsible for the leadership and management of the middle school. From 1983-1985, Marsha was the chairperson and an instructor at the Foundation Studies Division at Navajo Community College (now Dine College), in Tsaile, Arizona. She also instructed there from 1982 to 1983. Prior to that, Marsha was a reading specialist for two years at the Pennsylvania Institute of Technology in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania. From 1973 to 1975 she was a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Truk District, Micronesia, where she taught teachers at the Truk Teacher Education Center and was an assistant director of the district elementary reading project. She started her career as a primary school teacher in third grade and was also a teacher of elementary and junior high music.

Marsha's first duty in her new position was to conduct a search for a newly-created assistant head position. She and an interview committee considered six highly qualified and impressive candidates from within the school community, and we are pleased to announce that Darryl Brown has accepted the offer to fill that position. Darryl was born in Wales and has been teaching mathematics for 15 years, all in international schools, in Kenya, Venezuela and the USA. Darryl has been at AIS since August 2002.

The AIS community looks forward to working with Marsha and Darryl in the new school year.
