‘Senior Night' Honors 12th Graders' Last Games as Upper School Students
A small but impressive group of seniors will be honored at the Senior Night festivities on Friday, February 2. Cassie Huntley, Ashley McGraw, Julia Taylor and Ben Tracy have all juggled multiple extracurricular activities in addition to the rigor of the IB program to lead our winter sports teams.
Cassie Huntley
Cassie Huntley, an AIS student since 4K, heads up the Varsity swim team and has her sights set on participating in the state swim meet. No stranger to high level competition, she placed fourth in the high jump at the state track and field competition in 2005, and won the high jump as well as placing fourth in the triple jump in 2006. Cassie played Varsity basketball in Grades 8 and 9, and has played Varsity volleyball, soccer, and track and field for four years. She is also president of the International Students Against Landmines CAS group and assists with AIS's Habitat for Humanity chapter. Cassie is a stellar student and has received conditional acceptance to Oxford University in England in the fall.
Ashley McGraw
Ashley McGraw is the captain of the girls' Varsity basketball team and a perennial high scorer for the school. She joined the AIS Middle School basketball team after arriving from the American-International School in Budapest in Grade 7, where she had been a star of their team. She has played Varsity basketball at AIS for four years and leads the team with enthusiasm and compassion. Ashley also enjoys theatre and played Jan in the recent Grease production. She tutors Garden Hills Elementary students and has reached out to kids with behavior problems through the Santa's Angels Program. She will be attending Elon University in the fall.
Julia Taylor
Julia Taylor, a native of Atlanta, has been at AIS since ninth grade. She joined the Varsity basketball team that year, coming back from a knee injury in Grade 10 to rejoin the team in her junior and senior years. Julia has a wide range of interests in the arts, participating in the Grease performances this fall, studying art as an IB subject, where she won third place in the recent juried art show, and playing in the Honors Symphony Orchestra and the AIS String Chamber Ensemble. She has just returned from her third year with THIMUN (The Hague International Model United Nations) and is the president of Aprendiendo Inglès Solido, a CAS group that tutors Spanish-speaking children. She hopes to attend Middlebury College in Vermont next fall.
Ben Tracy
Ben Tracy has been at AIS since 4K. He began playing basketball in middle school and is in his second year with the Varsity squad. In addition to sports, Ben has participated actively in several theatre productions, including the role of Roger in this fall's production of Grease. He started Pro Niño, a CAS group that focuses on raising money for an orphanage he worked at in Honduras. The group is raising money this year to create a vegetable garden for the orphanage. Ben has been accepted at several colleges.
We're very proud of our seniors and invite everyone to come out on Friday, February 2, starting at 6 p.m., to honor them and have a great time at the final home basketball game of the year! There will be a special reception for alumni, seniors and their parents from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the IB Lounge.
