AIS Music Department Schedules Pair of February Concerts

On Tuesday, February 20, at 6 p.m. in the AIS Auditorium, the Primary School music performance ensembles will be presented in their annual late winter concert. Opening the program will be the PS Grade 4 Band, under the direction of Mr. Albert Soskin. Other ensembles appearing on the program will be the PS String Ensemble, directed by Ms. Herrad Welp, and the PS Chorus, under the leadership of Ms. Karen Peters. The program will conclude with the PS Grade 5 Band, again under Mr. Soskin's direction.

One week later, on the evening of February 27 at 7 p.m., the AIS Department of Music is pleased to present the three Middle School performing ensembles along with the AIS Symphony Orchestra. Opening the program will be the MS Symphonic Band under the direction of Dr. Ronald L. Howard. Next, Ms. Robin Wilkins will lead her MS String Orchestra, followed by the MS Chorus under the direction of Mr. Brandon Beauchamp. The program will conclude with a performance by the community ensemble, the AIS Symphony Orchestra, now in its second year of existence, under the leadership of Dr. Howard. The Symphony's program will include Johannes Brahms' Hungarian Dance No. 5, as well as music from Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber's popular musical, "Cats."

Senior IB Music Candidates to be Presented in Recital On the evening of Wednesday, February 28, at 7 p.m. in the Auditorium, the six candidates in the IB Music course will be presented in their Senior Recital program. Scheduled to appear in this recital are Cian OFaolain, alto saxophone; Nik Beisert, guitar; Celine Gendron, violoncello; Nick Anspach, guitar; Marissa Smith, clarinet; and Andre Soschinski, guitar. The students will each perform a portion of their IB-required performance portfolio in a solo and group ensemble format.

In addition to the IB Music recital portion of the program, the Upper School Jazz Band will appear on the program in conjunction with the performances of Nik Beisert and Cian OFaolain. The Jazz Band will also feature the world première of Adrien Pellerin's (Grade 10) new composition written especially for the AIS Jazz Band, his "Moonlight Tango," completed in December 2006. The community is invited to support this free recital/concert program and the efforts and talents of the graduating IB Music candidates.
