Middle School Hosts Visitors from International Community School

ICS Visit

Thirty-four Grade 6 students from the International Community School (ICS), founded in 2002 by former Head of Primary School Bill Moon, came to AIS to find out whether it might be a school that suits them. ICS goes only to Grade 6 so their senior students are spending time looking at other schools where they might potentially transfer in Grade 7.

Their counterparts at AIS were quick to welcome the visiting students, many of whom are refugees from other countries. The AIS hosts went out of their way to show interest in the visitors, and to explain to them the intricacies of a typical school day at AIS. The ICS Counselor, Ms. Peg Geronimo, who arranged the tour, wrote a letter of thanks, parts of which are quoted below:

"Thank you all for a wonderful AIS day! Apparently, your students were outstanding in the welcome that they showed to our students. Our students were impressed with the level of language ability, active participation in the classroom, and general enthusiasm for learning as exemplified by an interest in them! Since the day began with a late start and some misgivings and shyness about how they would be received, it is remarkable that the AIS students were so quickly able to engage and involve our students."

It is rewarding to have our own high expectations of our students reinforced by an objective group of their peers. We are very proud of the welcome they gave to these visitors.
